Mary Ward Grant Award 2021

Applications close Wednesday 7th October 2020

Mary Ward, 1585-1645, founded the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known in Australia as Loreto. Convinced that women in time to come will do much, she believed passionately in the education of women to their full potential and to the highest contemporary standards.

In order to promote the dignity and role of women in church and society, the Mary Ward Grant was established in 2000 to support specialist or post-graduate study of theology, spirituality and pastoral ministry. Consideration is given to applicants completing under-graduate study.

This is a partial grant, equivalent to fees in the range of 1-3 course units, with occasional larger grants. Grants are proportionate to total costs and an applicant’s financial need.

Priority is given to Catholic lay women. Other applications will be given serious consideration. Grants are offered at the discretion of the Grant Committee. Applications are treated confidentially on an individual
basis, with no discussion on the outcome.

Applicants are asked to submit the following information:
• Personal Details
• Study Proposal
• Evidence of Financial Need, Assistance sought ($) and Purpose for which the grant will be used: fees, resources,
research assistance, living allowance, travel
• Personal and Professional Benefit of Grant
• Proof of Scholarship: evidence of enrolment in the relevant course; results of recent theological or related study;
tertiary qualifications
• Names of Three Referees to include one personal, one academic and, where relevant, one professional
