John Hill CSsR is a senior lecturer in the Biblical Studies Department at YTU. His specialisation is in the Book of Jeremiah, and the period of the Babylonian Exile. He also explores the relationship between the Old Testament and issues in contemporary Australia, especially those related to the environment, aboriginal dispossession, and national reconciliation. He has published studies both internationally and in Australia, and posts his work on his website (www.austbiblica.org). He is also a member of the pastoral team at the John Pierce Centre for the Deaf in Melbourne. There he uses his biblical studies background to translate liturgical and biblical texts into Auslan, and is part of a team preparing a dictionary of religious signs for the Catholic Deaf community in Australia.
