Paul Beirne holds an MA in East Asian Studies from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, a Masters in Divinity from Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, a Doctor of Ministry from Chicago Theological Seminary, and a PhD from the School of History, Philosophy, Religion and Classics at the University of Queensland.
Paul’s book, Su-un and His World of Symbols: The Founder of Korea’s First Indigenous Religion, was published by Ashgate Publishers in Great Britain in 2009. A book chapter, Ch’ondo-gyo: Religion of the Heavenly Way, is due for publication in the Handbook of East Asian New Religious Movements, BRILL Publishers, in the Summer of 2014. Paul’s academic interests focus on the symbols and mystical traditions of East Asian religions.
Paul is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Divinity and the Director of Heart of Life Spirituality Centre, Box Hill.
